Learn about challenges posed by one of BC’s first mega fires in a new webinar from Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC).
Planning, safety, post-fire eligibility assessment, and Douglas-fir reforestation were among the issues raised by the McLure fire, north of Kamloops. The webinar 2003 McLure Fire — Reforestation Learnings explores those issues and new methodologies, tools, and silviculture prescriptions developed to establish new stands on the burned landscape.
Learning outcomes:
- understand the importance of a full office review of the burned areas to aid field eligibility assessments;
- gain awareness of new planning tools, such as burn severity mapping and high-quality post-fire imaging;
- understand that Douglas-fir requires special prescriptions and handling to ensure survival;
- understand that stands targeted for replanting require active monitoring and management; and
- understand that high levels of due diligence must be applied and documented when working in and around burned overstory trees.
