Innovation in forest management is advancing across the forestry sector, from data sources and derived data products to planning tools and automation.

As these advancements become more common, foresters can expect more accurate and precise data management, stronger decision-making, lower operational costs, and safer, more efficient field work.

Examples include individual-tree forest inventories, enhanced terrain mapping, improved timber supply modelling, early wildfire detection, autonomous drone response, AI forecasting of fire behaviour and spread, autonomous planting systems, and drone seeding.

Discover how technology and better data are supporting innovations in how forest management activities are measured, monitored, and planned in Innovation in Forest Management, a webinar from Forest Professionals BC.

Presenters:

Cam Brown, RPF

Brown holds a BSF from UBC and a master’s in forest engineering from Oregon State University. He is currently the director of analytics at Forsite and works from the company’s head office in Salmon Arm. He is an RPF in both BC and Saskatchewan and has worked in the Canadian and US forest sectors for more than 30 years — mostly in consulting roles. Brown’s work is focused on strategic planning, resource economics, forest inventory, forest carbon, and sustainability assessments.
