Matthias Splittgerber, RPF #5018
Candidate, FPBC Board Member at Large

Matthias Splittgerber, RPF
Executive Summary
Matthias Splittgerber, RPF, has a combination of practical forestry and regulatory expertise, with a decade in regulatory and high-level financial oversight, and operational forestry.
As an RPF since 2016, he has worked with the Forest Practices Board, an independent administrative tribunal monitoring BC’s forest and range practices, since 2021. His experience as acting director of investigations of the board provided insight into the governance functions of an independent provincial agency. In his current position as manager of audits and investigations, he advises board directors and members on improving forest practices, leading complaint investigations, and fostering working relationships with government, First Nations, and stakeholders.
His time with the board follows experience in forestry consulting in the West Kootenays and professional services in Vancouver.
His connection to BC’s forests began as an exchange student at UBC, including a summer on northern Vancouver Island. He pursued further forestry education and holds forestry degrees from UBC and the University of Freiburg, and has contributed to forestry projects in BC and internationally.
For the past five years, Matthias has volunteered with Forest Professionals BC’s finance subcommittee. He contributed to Forest Professionals BC’s financial oversight, including during the shift to the Professional Governance Act (PGA) and changes to the reserve fund’s investment approach.
