Tools for Drought Monitoring in Northern Rivers is a webinar from Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) that examines recent challenges and innovative solutions for monitoring hydrologic drought in northern BC.

Those solutions include new approaches to better exploit Water Survey of Canada data, low-cost, real-time data loggers, and watershed disturbance summary tools that estimate long-term flows for ungauged basins.

Tools for Drought Monitoring in Northern Rivers also explores interactions between both land cover and climate change on rivers and water resources, with a particular interest in forestry and wildfires.

Presenter:

Alex Bevington, M.Sc., PAg.

Bevington is a research hydrologist with the Ministry of Forests. His research looks at watershed hydrology and investigates the impacts of changes in climate and land cover on freshwater systems. Bevington integrates many forms of remote sensing — from satellite radar to thermal drones — in his research, and uses sophisticated physical modelling tools. He has seen the development of custom-made, real-time data loggers for a wide variety of applications, including emergency response to natural hazards and drought.
