FPBC Award Details

Climate Change Innovator

Recognizes an individual for outstanding contributions to innovations in practice and/or policy in response to current or anticipated impacts of climate change in the field of forestry.

Distinguished Forest Professional

Recognizes an individual for outstanding service to the forestry profession and for furthering FPBC’s principles.

Professional Forester of the Year

Recognizes a Registered Professional Forester for outstanding, recent service to the forestry profession and for furthering FPBC’s principles.

Forest Technologist of the Year

Recognizes a Registered Forest Technologist for outstanding, recent service to the forestry profession and for furthering FPBC’s principles.

Forest Innovation Award

The Forest Innovation Award recognizes a Registered Professional Forester, Registered Forest Technologist, or Natural Resource Professional who has taken a leadership role in applying innovative activities, projects, practices, procedures, or policies beyond current forest management best practices.

Jim Rodney Memorial Volunteer of the Year

Recognizes an individual for outstanding volunteer service to FPBC and the profession. The Volunteer of the Year Award was named in memory of Jim Rodney, RPF, who passed away in 2004. Demonstrating his passion for his chosen profession, Jim was always willing to sacrifice his time and energy to advance the practice of forestry. It is fitting that the Volunteer of the Year award bear Jim’s name. His volunteerism stands as an example and inspiration to everyone.

Joint Awards

Bill Young Award of Excellence in Integrated Resource Management

Co-sponsored by the Association of Professional Biology (APB). Promotes cooperation between forest, fish and wildlife management and fosters leadership in integrated resource management.

Forest Engineering Award of Excellence

Co-sponsored by Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC). Recognizes excellence and promotes cooperation and leadership in forest engineering.

FPBC Award of Merit in Sustainable Forestry

Recognizes an individual for significant and sustained contributions to the advancement of sustainable forest resource management. For non-registrants of FPBC.

BC Forest Professional Magazine Award

Recognizes individuals who have written outstanding articles for publication in BC Forest Professional (BCFP) magazine. Each January, the editorial advisory panel selects one article from the previous year which best advances the profession and demonstrates superb writing skills. Nominations are not accepted for BCFP awards
