Enhance your career in natural resources in Field Skills in Soil Classification and Assessment, a field-based course from BCIT.

The course introduces the Canadian System of Soil Classification (CSSC) and other key techniques used in forestry, arboriculture, natural areas management, ecological restoration, and more. Through hands-on experience at two field sites, you’ll learn to dig soil pits, interpret soil horizons, perform hand texturing, differentiate humus forms, and analyze soil properties for resource management applications.

The 12-hour course is designed for professionals and students in natural sciences, ecological restoration, forestry, resource management, arboriculture, planning, stewardship, outreach, and education. Students must provide their own transportation.
