The Professional Practice of Urban Forestry

This webinar from Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) examines the scope of practice of regulated forest professionals, arborists, and others who provide services or recommendations in the urban forest context.

Urban forests are increasingly recognized as critical to the health and welfare of the public and environment, according to Tara Bergeson, MSc, RPF, FPBC deputy director, competence and practice and one of the presenters for the webinar The Professional Practice of Urban Forestry.

“The increased interest in urban forests raises some important questions about who has the authority and competence to manage them,” Bergeson says.

Presenters: Bruce Blackwell, MSc, RPF, RPBio, principal, BA Blackwell and Associates, and Bergeson.

Blackwell has more than 30 years experience as a professional forester and biologist, primarily focused on fire and forest ecology, silviculture, vegetation management, wildland/urban interface planning, forest policy, and practice audits and reviews.

Bergeson focuses on the development and oversight of continuing professional development and the audit program for FPBC to support the quality of registrants’ professional practice. Before this role, she was an urban forester for the City of Kelowna.
