Presenters: Garnet Mierau, RPF, FPBC director of practice; and Tara Bergeson, RPF, MSc, FPBC deputy director of competence and practice
Mierau is responsible for ensuring standards of practice and competence are developed, clearly articulated, and conveyed to all forest professionals of BC. He also leads professional practice and conduct advice for all registrants. Garnet has more than 30 years of experience in forest management in western Canada. He has worked in government and industry, as well as in Indigenous relations and — between 2003 and 2023 — the consulting sector. He is a proven leader with strategic insights, creativity, and strong operational and business acumen.
Bergeson focuses on building professional practice support for registrants, including development and oversight of CPD and the audit program. Prior to joining FPBC, she worked extensively in wildland land resiliency and risk reduction and urban forestry, and is passionate about connecting people and nature.
