Watershed Hydrologist
$75,454.69 - $96,020.36 annually

The Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship is accountable for integrated land and natural resource management, including objective setting for land and marine environments, effectively managing cumulative effects, and advancing reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, environmental sustainability, and economic resiliency.

There are two new Watershed Hydrologist positions to support i) drinking water source protection and ii) permitting of critical natural resource development projects. In the role, you will work closely with watershed science and policy colleagues, water partners across ministries, and with Indigenous nations to conduct watershed science and assessment projects. These positions will provide clear sound scientific advice that matches the audience, prepare and manage contracts and other procurement actions, perform complex data analyses, draft reports and communications, and assist in the development of decision-support tools to inform water / watershed stewardship, permitting, drinking water source protection and emerging watershed priorities.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Masters specializing in hydrology or water resource sciences, or equivalent and two years of related experience*, OR
  • Undergraduate Degree in physical geography, or equivalent and three years of related experience*.
  • Registration or eligible for immediate registration as a Professional Geoscientist or Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists BC (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia), or a Registered Professional Forester with the Association of BC Forest Professionals or a Professional Agrologist with the BC Institute of Agrologists.

*Related experience must include all of the following:

  • Experience in conducting watershed assessment or source drinking water risk assessment projects.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and First Nations to inform solutions to complex environmental management issues.
  • Experience in contributing to solving environmental impact issues and analyzing and clearly communicating complex information to a range of audiences to achieve objectives.
