The Opportunity
Mosaic is seeking a Log Trader to work out of our Nanaimo office on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

The Role
Reporting to the General Manager, Sales and Marketing, the Log Trader is a member of the team responsible for selling logs into the domestic and international markets to meet log marketing strategies and corporate objectives.  Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing leadership in safety through personal example;
  • Adhering to and demonstrating commitment to corporate values on a daily basis;
  • Selling and managing log inventories including price negotiations, participation in defining and maintaining manufacturing and sorting specifications, maintaining sales schedules and volume commitments, and minimizing value loss due to pests, weather, and sinkage;
  • Providing ongoing market guidance to both the Operations and Log Purchase groups through regular communication regarding quality control and market information;
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with customers in Coastal BC and abroad, and supporting those relationships through quality assurance and on-time delivery;
  • Anticipating and recognizing market changes;
  • Working in a team environment, responding to changes in market conditions and inventory levels by developing tactical action plans that address target customers, markets, products, and revised EUS/manufacturing specifications/priorities to maximize overall benefits to the Company; and
  • Managing log sales in collaboration with Operations, Purchase, Product Planning and Supply Chain groups to achieve target inventory levels.

What we're seeking:

  • 5+ years’ experience in log sales and marketing with exposure to export markets is preferred, and extensive experience in the forest industry;
  • Working knowledge of coastal log species, end use sorts and log markets;
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications;
  • Superior interpersonal, oral and written communications skills;
  • Able to work in collaborative, team-based environments;
  • Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or can demonstrate eligibility and progress towards registration is preferred but not required.
  • Coastal Log Scaling Licence is preferred but not required; and
  • Valid BC Driver’s Licence.

Compensation
The annual salary range for this position is $107,000 to $133,000. Individual compensation is commensurate with skill, relevant experience, and education.
