Licensed Authorizations Officer
$67,931.58 - $86,624.56 annually, $36.53 isolation allowance bi-weekly for Smithers
The Ministry of Forests is responsible for the stewardship of provincial Crown land and ensures the sustainable management of forest, wildlife, water and other land-based resources. The Ministry works with Indigenous and rural communities to strengthen and diversify their economies.
Reporting to a section head or excluded manager and working in a variety of settings, the Licensed Authorizations Officer provides professional advice and may make decisions regarding the allocation of resources and adjudication of resource authorizations for British Columbia. This position will evaluate resource use applications and resource plans, review proposals/prescriptions, consult with stakeholders, communicate with clients and evaluate and make recommendations and/or approvals. The Licensed Authorizations Officer will also develop and maintain partnerships with officials from all levels of government, First Nations, stakeholders and clients/resource users to obtain input on and resolve land and resource issues.
Qualifications for this role include:
• Degree in the natural resource field or equivalent as recognized by the relevant association.
• Registered, or immediately eligible (within 6 months) for registration, with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area. (e.g., Forest Professionals BC, BC Institute of Agrologists, Engineers and Geoscientists BC)
o Note: Immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to immediately transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the appropriate association. Confirmation of registration/ eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be confirmed. If you are not currently registered, advise how you have confirmed with the applicable BC association that you are immediately eligible.
• Minimum 3 years related experience working in natural resource management.
• Experience in consulting, negotiating and resolving conflicts with stakeholders in natural resource management.
