Land and Resource Specialist
$75,454.69 - $96,020.36 annually

The Ministry of Forests is responsible for stewardship of the province’s Crown land and natural resources. Land use planning is one of a suite of approaches that the ministry can use to sustain important ecosystems and processes, resolve resource use issues and enhance certainty for environmental and economic goals.

The Land and Resource Specialist will focus on developing creative solutions to strategic resource management issues, including planning and implementing District Wildfire Recovery efforts. This position will bridge environmental, social and economic disciplines of natural resource management to advance policy, Ministry priorities and strategies and operational delivery of stewardship outcomes. The Land and Resource Specialist will lead diverse project teams of multidisciplinary specialists across multiple agencies and is responsible for managing, coordinating and delivering strategic initiatives from initiation to conclusion.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management), or an equivalent combination of education/training, and 3 or more years’ experience working in a natural resource discipline.
  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Professional Forester with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC).
  • Experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project or regional initiative.
  • Experience in supervising, leading and coaching staff/teams.
  • Experience managing operational budgets, including planning, forecasting, and reconciling activities with expenditures.
  • Experience managing relationships with senior level stakeholders.
  • Experience in implementing provincial and regional First Nations consultation procedures.
  • Experience and knowledge of conflict and dispute resolution principles and practices.
  • Conduct field work which may include travel and outdoor work in all weather conditions, and flying in remote locations.
