THE OPPORTUNITY
Homalco Jeh Jeh Tenure Management (HJJTM) is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Forestry Manager to join our team in Campbell River, BC.
The Forestry Manager will be responsible for overseeing a tenure assembly of two Forest Licenses and one TFL with a combined annual volume of 125,000 m3 annually. Tenures operate in the Sunshine Coast TSA and operations are remote, primarily in the area of Bute Inlet. This position requires a value driven, hands-on individual with strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of forestry operations, and the ability to effectively manage multiple contractors and projects.
JOB DESCRIPTION (REPORTING TO THE CEO OF HOMALCO BUSINESS GROUP)
Key Responsibilities
- Develop 5-year operations plan that aligns with key milestones and objectives of the Nation
- Coordinate and oversee contract relationships in
o Engineering and layout
o Contract operations, road building and stump to dump harvesting
o Silviculture and reforestation - Log movement, transportation, and inventory control
- Log sales
- Financial reporting through HBG’s financials systems
- Manage to regulatory compliance
- Anticipate and lead in adapting to industry trends
Qualifications and skills
- Excel as a leader, great interpersonal and communication skills (written, oral, digital)
- Solution focused, adaptive and can make decisions in a dynamic environment with ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- Bachelor’s degree in forestry, Natural Resources Management, or related field
- Must be registered with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC)
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in forestry operations including managing contractors and projects, and log sales
- Deep knowledge of forestry practices, regulations and environmental stewardship
- BC coastal forestry experience is necessary
- Strong financial analysis and reporting skills
- Ability to work independently
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required
Operations are remote with the successful candidate based in an office in Campbell River. The Forestry Manager must be able to prioritize their time effectively for the requirements of field operation engagement and have the travel flexibility out of office that this requires.
