Description

Blackwell & Associates is seeking an experienced Forest Professional to join its multi-disciplined team as a Project Lead. The position will provide the opportunity to plan and coordinate forestry and silviculture projects such as timber valuation, silviculture practices, forest fertilization, forest health, forest development, and fuel management. Job training will be provided as required. The position will include both field and office-based duties including:

  • Timber appraisals/tenure valuation and related analysis
  • Ecological data collection, site identification, fuel type assessment
  • Forest health assessment
  • Stand assessments for fertilization, density management and rehabilitation
  • Stream/riparian assessments
  • Forest management field work
  • Technical reporting and prescription development
  • Treatment implementation and supervision
  • Project planning and management
  • Fuel management

B.A. Blackwell’s main office is located in North Vancouver but other work bases may be considered – Vancouver Island or the B.C. Interior. The work involves considerable travel throughout B.C., including remote locations. Fieldwork may include weeklong or 10-day shifts during the field season (no remote camp work). The fieldwork can be physically demanding with exposure to all types of weather conditions and requires a flexible schedule.

Required Qualifications:

  • Registered with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) or eligible for registration as a Forest Professional;
  • Minimum 5 years of forestry experience;
  • Possess a valid class 5 BC Driver’s License;
  • Strong interpersonal communication, technical report writing, and editing skills;
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, a strong work ethic, schedule flexibility, team player, and a desire to develop and learn; and
  • Legal status to work in Canada and fluent in English.

Preferred Qualifications/Assets:

  • Forestry field Preference will be given to candidates with experience in operations and planning including harvesting and road construction, silviculture, fuels management/wildfire management, fire suppression, forest health;
  • Understanding and interpreting financial data, documentation, and reports;
  • Conduct data analytics using Microsoft Excel pivot tables and statistical tools;
  • Proficiency using C. stand-level analytical tools (E.g.,TIPSY, Woodlot, TAAS, VDYP);
  • Experience with ArcMap, SNAP, Avenza Maps, and Microsoft Office; and
  • Experience working around trucks, ATVs, and snowmobiles, including driving manual transmission vehicles and forestry.
