JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties:

 The Distribution Contract Professional will report to the Manager, Distribution Vegetation and is accountable for managing the contract functions related to the efficient delivery of distribution vegetation services, managing contractor performance, and compliance as well as realizing strategic benefits. This position oversees the assignment of work to contractors, consultants, and internal staff, and ensures the implementation of policies, procedures, and standards for the completion of vegetation work.

As the Contract Professional (CP), your accountabilities will include contract and performance oversight, supporting the business’ requirements for quality, safety, and reliability, understanding the capacity of individual contractors, and supporting the development new and emerging contractors.

You will ensure BC Hydro meets guaranteed work volume commitments for area contractors and that the work assigned to these contractors is adequate and appropriate to meet BC Hydro strategic goals and annual plans. You will track that area contractors are meeting their performance responsibilities including, but not limited to, work execution and quality, safety, contract specifications, and work milestones. You will allocate and reassign work to ensure the optimal use of contractor resources. You will manage and sign off on variances and equitable adjustments as required.

You will work with clients to provide input and influence on programs and projects, educate managers on estimating practices and tools, and ensure Vegetation Management and contractors have the time and information required to complete the project on time and on budget. You will track the lifecycle of large and/or complex projects over time to enlist resources to ensure project information is provided appropriately.

You will manage internal and external stakeholder relationships including First Nations, Provincial, and Municipal governments. You will facilitate the resolution of issues with landowners, regulators, local communities, and special interest groups, seeking counsel and advice from Integrated Planning, Finance, Procurement, Environment, and Legal Services as needed. You have expertise in managing multiple stakeholders across multiple projects.

You will support a safety culture and conduct workplace audits and Safe Work Observations to ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and all other contractual obligations. You will identify efficiency opportunities, risks and required mitigations, and provide inputs to performance reviews.

The ideal candidate is highly motivated to achieve results for BC Hydro, support the success of their peer teams, and build lasting, progressive contractor relationships.

 Qualifications:

* Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry, Resource Management, Environmental Sciences or Biology; or Diploma in Forestry, Horticulture or Environmental studies from an Institute of Technology or equivalent experience.

* Registered with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) or must be eligible for registration and register with the ABCFP within two (2) months of hire and complete requirements within two (2) years of registration; OR registered with the International Society of Arboriculture as a Certified Arborist and as a Certified Utility Specialist.

* Requires completion of a variety of in-house courses related to contract administration and environmental issues and specific applications/systems; or must be completed within three (3) months of starting in the role.

* A minimum of four (4) years of progressive experience working in utility vegetation management or in the field of forestry vegetation management.

* Proven abilities (as they relate to contract management) in influencing internal and external parties, managing risk, successful change management initiatives, and optimizing costs through innovation.

* Must possess excellent interpersonal, communications, negotiating, project management, planning and organizational skills.

* Proficiency with MS Office including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.

* Proven leadership capabilities to manage and develop contractor relationships and skills to build and maintain effective internal and external stakeholder relationships.

* Must hold a valid class five (5) driver's license.

* This is for one (1) full-time permanent (FTR) M&P Group 44 opportunity, based in Nanaimo, BC.

* As part of the selection process, applicants may be required to take a written test/assessment or do a presentation.

* These positions will require regular travel around the province and overnight stays.

* A condition of employment in this role is that you maintain your Class 5 Driver's License in good standing.

Flexible work model role definitions

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.

IBEW/Field – No option to work from home

Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.

Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.

Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
