The BC Council of Forest Industries (COFI) is an industry association representing the majority of the forest manufacturers in British Columbia. Our members are leaders in the global forest products industry, helping to drive the economy of the province and the communities in which they operate.

COFI advocates for the interests of its members and works with all levels of government to promote a healthy, diversified, sustainable forest industry. It works to ensure policies and regulations are effective and help to maintain forest sector competitiveness in the global marketplace, ensures the highest environmental standards and recognizes the role of sustainable forest management and low-carbon forest products in a net zero future.

The Opportunity
COFI is seeking an Analyst, Forest Policy to join our dynamic team based in our Vancouver offices in a permanent full-time position.
The Forest Policy Analyst works closely with members of the leadership team and collaborates with member companies and governments to undertake research and identify solutions with respect to forest policy in BC.

Reporting directly to the Vice-President and Chief Forester, specific job duties and responsibilities include:
• Support discussions with COFI members on forest policy issues and opportunities that support a strong and sustainable industry and healthy communities.
• Participate with provincial and federal government, First Nations and stakeholders on policy issues and opportunities.
• Conduct research and analysis to aid in the preparation of policy positions and documents.
• Assess the impacts of proposed policy, legislative or regulatory changes.
• Work closely with the other Analysts in the Economics, Environment and Public Relations COFI teams in advancing forest policy.

Key Education and Experience
• Undergraduate degree in Forestry, Natural Resources or equivalent.
• 2 or more years’ experience in the BC forest sector.
• Registered (or eligible for registration) with Member of the Forest Professionals of BC (FPBC), with relevant professional designation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge and interest in forest policy and forest management and strong skills in relationship building.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Outstanding work ethic, strong initiative, and ability to work independently and in an interactive team setting.

Working Conditions

• You will be working within a dynamic fast-paced office environment at COFI’s downtown Vancouver office. Current requirements are for a minimum of 3 days in the office (Wednesday mandatory) and balance work from home available.
• Periodic travel and overnight stays will be required for meetings and conferences.
• Visits to industrial sites and timberlands may be required periodically.

Salary Range: $75,000 – 95,000
