Advisor, First Nations Relations

$69,969.42 - $89,774.32 annually

The Sunshine Coast Natural Resource District team is a collaborative group of experts dedicated to providing valuable advice and decision support across various business areas in the district. We work together with other partners and clients to ensure informed decisions are made, helping to manage and protect natural resources effectively, while fostering a positive and supportive environment.

The Advisor, First Nations Relations is a vital role that involves guiding respectful consultations about the use of natural resources on Crown land, carefully considering the impact on First Nations' traditional use areas. In this position, you will use your excellent communication skills to build strong relationships with First Nations communities, industry partners and government agencies, ensuring all legal and procedural requirements are met.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area (i.e., Forest Professionals BC, Institute of Agrologists, Engineers and Geoscientists BC).
  • Degree in the natural resource field or equivalent as recognized by the relevant BC association.
  • Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, social or economic development issues.
  • Significant experience working with First Nations communities and collaborating and consulting with First Nations.

Preference may be given to those with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Those who identify as Indigenous.
  • Those with experience engaging in strategic-level negotiations with First Nations; and/or,
  • Those with experience engaging First Nation communities whose territories overlap with the Sunshine Coast Natural Resource District.
