Communities of Practice

Professional forestry practice communities provide learning and development opportunities for forestry professionals about forest management matters and topics that are part of, or involve, the practice of professional forestry:

  • BC Community Forest Association provides educational resources and extension services for forest professionals supporting community forests in BC.

  • Coastal Silviculture Committee shares current forest management and technical silvicultural information to all forest practitioners and the public in coastal British Columbia.

  • Northern Interior Cruising Committee promotes standards imperative to the proper collection and processing of timber cruise data.

  • Northern Silviculture Committee promotes co-operation, understanding, and improvement in the application of silviculture practices at the field level.

  • Southern Interior Timber Cruisers Association promotes high standards in cruising, continuing education, and training in cruising.

  • Southern Interior Silviculture Committee promotes appropriate silviculture practices in BC and dialogue around good silviculture and forest practices in BC.

  • Western Forestry Contractors Association provides information and hosts events and annual conferences related to activities in the silviculture sector, including nurseries, tree-planting, brushing and spacing, consulting foresters, and wildfire fighting.

  • Wildland Fire and Fuel Community of Practice: The aim of this community of practice is to create an open forum to discuss wildland fire and fuel management, share knowledge, find solutions, and develop new ideas. Representatives of FPBC and BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) provide updates on the regulation of the practice of professional forestry and the management of wildland fire and fuels during meetings.
