Joe Kenny, RPF

Executive Summary

Joseph Kenny, P.Eng, RPF, has spent the past 25 years working in the BC forest industry, developing and honing skills and knowledge in business management, corporate governance, financial oversight, budgeting, and effective management of human resources. He has also gained knowledge and understanding of the management and stewardship of publicly owned forests in BC.

Joseph currently serves as the deputy director of the engineering branch in the Ministry of Forests, providing senior professional, scientific, and technical expertise to the director, executive, statutory decision-makers, and senior staff.

He was previously senior manager of policy and legislation in the same branch, and in 2022 was a contract auditor for the BC Forest Practices Board, assessing BC Timber Sales’ operational adherence to forestry legislation. He was also a subject matter expert on forest roads, bridges, and development for BCTS.

Before joining the ministry, Joseph spent six years as woodlands manager for Pacific BioEnergy in Prince George and was responsible for all operational aspects of supplying fibre to the company’s pellet plant. He also negotiated log and residual supply agreements with sawmills, other tenure holders, and private landowners while supervising staff associated with grinding and harvesting operations, as well as planning and permitting on crown lands and forest tenures.

Joseph is a registrant with Forest Professionals of British Columbia (FPBC) and Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) and has volunteered with both organizations. He is a member of FPBC’s discipline committee and EGBC’s natural resources and natural hazards advisory group. In the past, he was a mentor with EGBC, in addition to being a member of the Engineering, Forestry and Geoscience Joint Practice Panel. He also held executive positions for two terms with the Division of Engineers and Geoscientists in the Resource Sector (EGRIS), including one term as chair.
